Maize Farm Walk

New Maize Research Site Field Walk

Thursday 30th January, 9am

The GRDC project ‘Development and validation of soil amelioration and agronomic practices to realise the genetic potential of grain crops grown under a high yield potential, irrigated environment in the northern and southern regions’ aims to maximise the profitability of irrigated farming systems in the Murray and Murrumbidgee region, South East South Australia and Tasmania. The research project is led by FAR Australia in collaboration with the Irrigated Cropping Council and is part of a wider set of investments being made by GRDC in irrigated cropping systems.

The field walk will provide the opportunity for local growers, advisers and researchers to take a walk through the research trials on site and discuss the project as a whole.

The tour will be led by Nick Poole and Michael Straight from FAR with Damian Jones, ICC Trial Manager our site host.

Come along to discuss;

  • Nutrition: Nitrogen rate and timing.
  • Basic crop metrics: Biomass at V6/V8, Harvest metrics.
  • Crop establishment: Plant population and row spacing.
  • Stay green effects in grain maize: Novel fungicides and green leaf retention.

Guest Speaker – Stephen Wilson, Corn Research Manager, Pioneer Seeds
